Westerham Rocks Festival
Supporting Tsunami Projects in Sri Lanka
Living in England it is easy to forget the Tsunami of Boxing day 2004. Decimating
the coastal regions of India, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and other beautiful
areas surrounding the Indian Ocean. In theses places the destruction and
devastation are daily reminders of loved ones lost, homes destroyed, livelihoods
disrupted, schools and services washed away.
Westerham Rocks Music Festival 2008 aims to revisit the 2005 fundraiser and continue supporting the projects we helped back then. Our aim is to treble the amount raised in 2005. To fund continued rebuilding in SRI LANKA, carried out by Lanka Mahila Samiti Womens Organisation (LMS). As in 2005, all money raised will be sent directly to LMS with no administration fees. The LMS is a national non-governmental organization established in 1930 to undertake early childhood care and development.
In 2005 our funds raised at Westerham Rocks helped to build a new nursery
school in Galagodawatte Ambalagonda to replace the one which was completely
washed away. Foundations were laid in 2005 and the school was opened in
2006, with 50 children attending.
The fourth Westerham Rocks will be held on the 12th July 12th 2008 in the
gardens of the Kings Arms Hotel, Market Square, Westerham, Kent, raising
funds for Sri Lankan Tsunami projects and featuring four fantastic bands.
